Empty Stock feature
When configuring the allowed trips in a Store Transfer scenario, the user can also set the option to “Empty Stock”. This feature forces the engine to ship out all stock (from the products included in the scenario scope), to the rest of the network.
This feature is useful in the following cases:
- To clear out old seasons or collections.
- To make space for new products.
- Renovation works.
- Store closures.
- Stock transfers due to weather conditions (e.g. all sweaters from south to north stores)
To use this feature, the user would need to configure at least one allowed trip that has an origin store category or specific store selected in the field “From”:
In the example above, we are indicating to the system to send all stock of the products selected in the scope of the stores contained in the category “Stores Closing Soon” to all the rest of the store network.
Troubleshooting
⚠️The store transfer scenario may fail and result in zero trips being suggested when using Empty Stock feature. Please make sure that the following conditions are respected:
- Ensure that the category selected for the origin is different from the one selected for the destination.
In this case, for emptying stock from the stores from Canada to other stores inside the country, the user could not select “CAN”, they would have to create two different categories, with some stores as origin and others as destination:
This configuration will result in 0 units and trips:
- Verify that the stores selected for the trip (both origin and destination) are included in the initial store scope of the scenario. For example, the initial scope of the scenario is “USA”, then any trips involving “Canada” - either as origin or destination - will not be valid and results in a 0 units and trips situation
Conclusions
Empty Stock gives users the ability to clear out stores according to their business and strategic needs. By providing this functionality, the platform ensures an efficient use of stock across the store network, prioritizing the distribution to stores with the highest demand.
